UT Health East Texas Expands Advanced Clinical Services in New UT Tyler School of Medicine Building  

Tyler, Texas (August 26, 2026) — UT Health East Texas is expanding clinical services in the new UT Tyler School of Medicine Building, bringing advanced outpatient, specialty and imaging services together under one roof in a state-of-the-art facility designed to enhance patient care, convenience and access across the region.

 

The first floor is home to the Advanced Imaging Center, offering comprehensive breast imaging services, including 3D mammography, ultrasound and breast MRI. The center features comfortable, dedicated waiting areas designed to meet the needs of all patients, including men, who can also be diagnosed with breast cancer.

 

The first floor also houses advanced MRI technology, which, together with a new CT scanner on the second floor, offers some of the most advanced diagnostic capabilities in East Texas.

 

According to UT Health Tyler Director of Imaging Russ Cannon, the new equipment significantly improves image quality while reducing the need for invasive procedures.

 

“These technologies allow us to diagnose conditions with greater accuracy and confidence than ever before,” Cannon said. “In many cases, we’re able to obtain the information physicians need without additional invasive testing, helping patients receive answers faster, with less risk and greater peace of mind.”

 

The facility’s advanced cardiac imaging capabilities are expected to play an important role in improving diagnosis and treatment planning for patients with heart disease.

 

Clinical services on the second floor include women’s health, providing comprehensive care through every stage of life, including preventive, gynecologic and maternity services.

 

The third floor is dedicated to orthopedics, doubling previous clinic capacity while integrating imaging and diagnostic testing within the same location for a more seamless patient experience.

 

The fourth floor will house pulmonary services through a centralized Pulmonary Institute that brings specialty providers, advanced diagnostic testing and coordinated care together in one location.

 

Each clinical floor is equipped with in-clinic, low-dose X-ray technology, allowing patients to receive diagnostic imaging during their appointment without traveling to another location.

 

“We’ve made tremendous advances in imaging technology, including significant reductions in radiation exposure,” Cannon said. “By placing imaging services directly within the clinics, we’re improving both safety and convenience while creating a more efficient experience for our patients.”

 

Later this year, the fifth floor will become a hub for advanced surgical care, featuring eight state-of-the-art operating rooms, leading-edge robotic surgical technology and an integrated Sterile Processing Department that supports the broader UT Health Tyler campus.

 

The new facility represents a collaborative investment by UT Health East Texas and The University of Texas at Tyler, bringing medical education, research and patient care together to expand access to advanced services while strengthening the physician workforce serving East Texas.
