Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) Members to be Recognized at 2026 National High School Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame Banquet
Coralville, Iowa (June 29, 2026) — The Texas High School Coaches Association will be represented on the national stage at the 2026 National High School Athletic Coaches Association (NHSACA) Hall of Fame Banquet. Three distinguished THSCA members will receive prestigious honors during the annual event in Coralville, Iowa, on Tuesday, June 30, 2026. These national awards recognize their dedication to advancing the coaching profession and to celebrate a lifetime of achievement and service to student-athletes.
Drew Sanders — NHSACA Hall of Fame Inductee
Sanders, a native of Mexia, Texas, began his football career as a student-athlete at Mexia High School before continuing at Hardin-Simmons University, where he earned a degree in Physical Education with a minor in English. He started his coaching career at Mexia Middle School and later served as an assistant coach at Killeen, San Antonio Taft, and San Antonio Stevens high schools. In 2006, he became head coach at Austin Travis High School, leading the Rebels to their most successful three-year stretch in more than 20 years.
In 2009, Coach Sanders launched the football program at Vandegrift High School in Austin and has since built one of Texas’ premier programs. Under his leadership, the Vipers have won eight district championships, captured their first UIL Class 6A Division II state championship in 2024, and helped Vandegrift earn the 2024–25 UIL 6A Lone Star Cup. Coach Sanders has received several THSCA awards, including the 2024-25 Boys Coach of the Year award, as well as the 2024-25 Football Coach of the Year award. He previously served on the Texas High School Coaches Association Board of Directors and currently serves as THSCA President for 2025–26. Coach Sanders and his wife, Janet, have been married for 27 years and have three children: Matt, Caleb, and Sadie.
Misty Fletcher-Remmers — NHSACA Hall of Fame Inductee
At Wimberley, Coach Remmers led the Texans to the 2024 UIL 4A Division II State Championship and a 2025 UIL 4A Division II State Runner-Up finish. Her accomplishments earned her numerous honors, including 2024-25 THSCA Girls Coach of the Year, 2024-25 THSCA Volleyball Coach of the Year, and TSWA 4A Volleyball Coach of the Year.
A first-generation college graduate, Remmers played volleyball at Schreiner University and later earned a master’s degree in Educational Administration from Lamar University. She is passionate about mentoring student-athletes and has shared her expertise as a speaker at both THSCA and TGCA coaching conventions. She resides in New Braunfels with her husband, Dennis, and their three dogs.
Brenda Marshall — Kathy Holloway Women of Inspiration Award Winner
Marshall’s distinguished career in athletics spans decades and includes success as both a coach and athletic administrator. She served as Head Softball Coach at West Texas State University and Sam Houston State University before becoming a pioneering leader in athletic administration.
In 1986, Marshall became the first female Athletic Specialist for Corpus Christi ISD, and in 2005, she again made history as the district’s first female Athletic Director. Throughout her career, she has served on numerous state and national committees while dedicating nearly 40 years to supporting regional and state athletic events.
Marshall has received numerous honors for her service and leadership, including the Texas State Award of Merit, NFHS Citation Award, Bruce Whitehead Distinguished Service Award from the NIAAA, and the 2024 THSCA Jody Conradt Award. She was also selected to the THSADA Class of 2025 Hall of Honor.
The honorees will be recognized on June 30, 2026, at the NHSACA Hall of Fame Banquet in Coralville, Iowa, held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel and Conference Center.
