UT Health East Texas to expand clinical services in new UT Tyler School of Medicine Building

TYLER, Texas (April 24, 2026)  –  UT Health East Texas today announced a major milestone in partnership with The University of Texas at Tyler, with the opening of the new UT Tyler School of Medicine Building. In addition to the growing medical education program, UT Health East Texas also will expand its clinical services in the new facility this summer.

The new facility reflects a shared vision between UT Health East Texas and UT Tyler, bringing academic training and clinical care together in one location to expand access to advanced services while strengthening the medical workforce across the region.

“This new facility represents a long-term investment in the health and future of East Texas,” said Donald Baker, regional president of UT Health East Texas. “Our partnership with UT Tyler allows education and patient care to move forward side by side, enabling meaningful learning experiences and exceptional care delivery.”

Clinical services in the new School of Medicine Building

Beginning this summer, UT Health East Texas will operate a range of outpatient, specialty and surgical services throughout the facility, including:

  • Advanced Imaging with MRI, cardiac CT, X-ray, fluoroscopy, bone density testing, 3D mammography and breast ultrasound
  • Women’s Health Services with comprehensive care across all life stages, including preventive, gynecologic and maternity care
  • Orthopedic & Sports Medicine integrating the service line with onsite imaging and diagnostic testing
  • Pulmonary Care delivered through a centralized Pulmonary Institute featuring advanced diagnostic testing and coordinated specialty services
  • Surgical Services with eight state-of-the-art operating rooms, robotic surgical technology and an integrated Sterile Processing Department supporting the broader UT Health Tyler campus

Together, these services support high-quality, coordinated care while creating a dynamic clinical environment for physician education and training.

Since the partnership began, graduate medical education in the region has expanded from approximately 30 residents to nearly 300, helping address physician shortages by training doctors where they are most likely to stay, practice and lead.
