Plant Propagation Featured at SFA Gardens Seminar

Nacogdoches—SFA Gardens will host a Garden Seminar from 9 a.m. to noon on May 9 in the Ina Brundrett Conservation EducationStephen F. Austin State University | The University of Texas System | Nacogdoches, Texas Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, 2900 Raguet Street, Nacogdoches, Texas. Dr. Andrew King, assistant professor of ornamental horticulture at Texas A&M AgriLife in Overton, will present “Plant Propagation” at the seminar.

King is a 4th generation horticulturist whose family has been in the nursery industry for 110 years. He has served on the faculty in the Texas A&M Department of Horticultural Sciences in College Station and as the Assistant Director of SFA Gardens on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches. King’s research focuses on enhancing the quality, variety and resilience of ornamental crops in Texas and the U.S. through breeding and selection efforts and assisting the green industry in their effort to produce these crops profitably and efficiently. 

King will teach various propagation techniques, including cuttings and sowing seeds, and present propagation tips and tricks during the seminar.  King said, “the workshop will be a great opportunity for gardeners to learn the basics of propagation.” Attendees will have an opportunity to try their hands at propagating plants and take their new plants home with them. The cost is $25 for SFA Gardens members and $35 for nonmembers. Tickets can be purchased online at sfasu.edu/gardens/store.
