HILARIOUS NEW PLAY IN DOWNTOWN PITTSBURG, APRIL 17-19
The Performance Supply Company Players present “HOLLYWOOD COMES TO CACTUS COUNTY,” a hilariously fun play in Pittsburg, April 17–19!
HOLLYWOOD COMES TO CACTUS COUNTY, written by Jodie Wilk, is about a movie being made in a small East Texas town. When a Hollywood film crew rolls into Cactus County, population 131, the locals are thrown into a
whirlwind of gossip, excitement, and pure small-town chaos. From has-been beauty queens to bombastic lawmen and pageant moms, everyone wants their fifteen minutes of fame—even if the movie is an adaptation of a Shakespeare classic, The Taming of the Chew, all about stopping a woman from the nasty habit of chewing tobacco. A laugh-out-loud clash of big-city glamour and down-home charm, this comedy proves that in Cactus County, the drama off-screen might just steal the show.
“I was inspired to write the show beause I love Tuna, Texas.” says Jodie Wilk, Owner/Director of Performance Supply Company, an Acting School and Community Theatre in Pittsburg. “I’ve always loved how in that play only two actors played multiple roles. So, I thought, let’s get some amazing actors who want a big challenge, write up a humorous story, and have some fun.”
Jodie says the play has five actors playing eighteen roles. “My cast has had a great time developing lots of distinct characters who do outlandish things. In addition to playing two female characters, my three adult ladies play male roles as the sheriff, mayor, and coach. The scene where these women, dressed as men, complain about women is pure Carol Burnett—like comedy gold and worth the price of admission.”
The play stars three adult actors and two Performance Supply Company students.
Deana French of Pittsburg plays Pearlene, owner of Frenchy’s Feed and Seed; Vernelle, skittish city hall secretary; and Sheriff Buck Rawlings.
Dr. Marcella Hodges of Pittsburg plays Dixie Lou Hafer, waitress and actress wannabe; Loretta June Whitaker, beautician-in-training; and Mayor Buford T. Smoot.
Teresa Wooten of Mount Pleasant plays Charlene Ledbetter, pushy pageant mom, Opaline Henson, oldest woman in Dustwhistle, and Coach Bobby Ray Craton.
Audrey Cagle of Mount Pleasant and a PSC student, plays Scout Ranger, movie location scout; Roz Gitterdone, casting agent; Simone Crawford, diva Oscar-winning actress; Flash McGraw, stagehand.
Mallory Mancera of Mount Pleasant and a PSC student, plays Piper Hart, fourth assistant director; Ms. Donna Vox, elocution coach; Director Marta Scorezzi; Peaches Ledbetter; and Frankie DeLuca, stunt coordinator.
