Covenant Children’s Hospital and Covenant Health Add an Anonymous Surrender Option

LUBBOCK, TX, June 26, 2025 – Saving lives just got a little easier in Lubbock, TX, Plainview, TX, and Levelland, TX, as our newest baby boxes will be blessed on June 26th at 11 AM CST. The latest addition represents a significant step forward in our mission to provide a safe and anonymous alternative to surrendering an infant. Located at 4002 24Th St., Lubbock, TX, 2601 Dimmit Rd., Plainview, TX, and 1900 College Ave., Levelland, TX, our new locations will offer a secure and compassionate option for parents in crisis and help ensure every infant has a chance for a safe and loving future. While all three Baby Boxes will become active on this date, the blessing ceremony and public event will occur exclusively at Covenant Children’s Hospital at 4002 24th St., Lubbock, TX 79410, at 11 AM CST.

The Safe Haven Baby Box in Lubbock would not have been possible without Church on the Rock, who sponsored the baby box for Covenant Children’s, Parkhill, who donated architecture services, Teinert, who donated construction services, Firetrol who donated construction/electrical services, (along with a number of smaller contractors). The Safe Haven Baby Box in Plainview would not have been possible without Fred & Louise Joachim Foundation and Teinert Construction. Lastly, the Safe Haven Baby Box in Levelland would not have been possible without Amy Thompson, Ainsley Nelson, Ainsley, Meredith Cunningham, Norma Rubalcava, and Newman Wheeler; all these wonderful people worked tirelessly to bring this resource to their community.

Monica Kelsey founded Safe Haven Baby Boxes on a mission to end infant abandonment. In addition to baby boxes, the organization provides a confidential National Hotline, 1-866-99BABY1. Twenty-three states have a Baby Box presence within their state. Kelsey shared, “We have seen time and time again that preparation can save and change lives. We never know when or where we will be needed, so having options for mothers in crisis is crucial. I am grateful for local advocates who take our mission to their community.”

Since 2017, 60 infants have been safely and legally surrendered in a Baby Box. The National Safe Haven Crisis line has assisted with over 150 handoff surrenders. Each year, the number increases as more baby boxes are available nationwide. Surrendered infants are adopted by

families who have registered as foster-to-adopt. The Local Department of Family Services coordinates the adoption process.
