| Newsweek honors garden as top spring destination; peak bloom happening now DALLAS, Texas – March 2025 — The cherry blossoms are officially in bloom at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden—just in time for national recognition. Newsweek has named the Dallas Arboretum one of the Top 10 Places in the U.S. to See Cherry Blossoms, placing it among the country’s most iconic springtime destinations. The honor comes as the Arboretum celebrates its 40th annual Dallas Blooms festival, presented by Amegy Bank. At the heart of the event are more than 150 Japanese cherry trees, now blooming in soft waves of pink and white along the garden’s walkways. “There’s nothing quite like it in Texas,” said Megan Proska, vice president of horticulture. “For just a short window each spring, guests are surrounded by soft petals and serene beauty—it’s an unforgettable experience.” These Yoshino cherry trees (Prunus x yedoensis), many donated in memory of loved ones, typically reach peak bloom in early to mid-March. Their brief but spectacular appearance has become one of the most cherished features of Dallas Blooms, the largest annual floral festival in the Southwest. This year’s festival, themed “Outside the Ordinary,” offers visitors a fresh experience every week, including: - 500,000 spring-blooming bulbs, including 350,000 tulips
- Life-sized bronze sculptures by acclaimed artist Seward Johnson
- Twilight garden hours, live music, and weekend chef demos
- Interactive art and wellness classes, ideal for families, creatives, and nature lovers
Inspired by Japan’s centuries-old Hanami tradition—gathering under cherry blossoms to celebrate the beauty and brevity of life—visitors are encouraged to create their own version of this ritual throughout the garden. Select evenings offer extended hours to experience the blooms at golden hour. |
