**Women’s Center and Local Agencies Unite to Host Free Conference on Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness**
Longview— 10/3/2024 — The Women’s Center of East Texas, Inc. will again partner with The Martin House Children’s Advocacy Center, Greater Longview United Way, Rotary Club of Longview, and Zonta Club of Longview to host the 2nd annual Too Close to Home Conference on Tuesday, October 8, 2024.
“Whether we have experienced domestic or sexual violence ourselves or know someone who has, we understand that these forms of abuse deeply affect our entire community,” said Hollie Bruce, CEO of Women’s Center. “Our shared goal for the conference is to offer a full day of learning for all community members about the various forms of domestic and sexual violence. We believe that real change starts with knowledge, and we secure event sponsors so no one is excluded from attending due to registration costs.”
“Domestic and sexual violence affect every corner of our community, leaving scars on individuals and families,” said Mayor Kristen Ishihara. “It’s encouraging to see these agencies collaborate to address these issues head-on to raise awareness.”
Longview Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division will receive a Dedicated Service Award during the opening of the Conference to honor the work they do to protect the lives of survivors of domestic violence. U.S. Congressman Nathaniel Moran will provide opening remarks and an introduction to keynote speaker Jenna Quinn, a sexual assault survivor and namesake of Jenna’s Law.
The conference will feature nationally renowned speakers, keynote and breakout sessions, and participants can purchase lunch from food trucks during the lunch hour. Coffee and continental breakfast will be available during the 8:00-9:00 check in/networking hour. Continuing education units are available to mental health professionals, nurses, educators, first responders, law enforcement, and attorneys.
“October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, so we feel the timing is perfect. We have over 450 registrants so far, and welcome people to continue to register or learn more about the event at www.tooclosetohomeetx.com.” The conference will be held at Maude Cobb Convention Center on Tuesday, October 8, from 8:00-5:00 and registration is free.
