Free Open House at Local Camp and Conference Center

Camp Gilmont is inviting the community to a FREE Open House from 10 am – 4pm on March 12, 2022.  Enjoy exploring, hiking, canoeing, cornhole and more games. Camp tours are offered at 11 AM and 2 PM. Axe throwing is available 1-3 PM. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the outdoors with lots of space to spread out and be in nature. Gilmont hopes the local community will enjoy the day at camp and learn about Gilmont’s new day camp program.

Gilmont is programming one week of day camp this upcoming summer with hopes to expand the program in future summers. Day Camp will be offered June 20 – 24 from 9 AM – 4 PM. Campers ages 5 – 12 are invited to attend and enjoy Gilmont’s classic camp activities. “We are really excited about our program. It will be an enriching opportunity for local kids to unplug, play outside, and grow in character, community, and faith.” – says Crosby Palmer, Gilmont’s Program Director.

Gilmont is a Camp and Conference Center located just Northeast of Gilmer, across from Barnwell Mountain Recreation Area on State Hwy 155. The camp sits on 400 acres and has 6 cabins, 3 lodges, several meeting spaces, hiking and mountain biking trails, canoes, paddle boards, swimming pool, a zipline, low ropes courses, miniature golf course, and a great view from the second highest point in Upshur County. 

Gilmont programs and hosts different retreats throughout the year including a women’s retreat, men’s retreat, spiritual practices retreat, silent retreat, and more. Several times a year Gilmont hosts Circle of Friends, a weekend retreat for families who have children with special needs. The camp welcomes families, church groups, businesses, scout groups, craft groups, and others who want to enjoy camp property and amenities for the day, weekend, or week.

At the heart of Gilmont’s mission is their summer camp program. A camper parent from last year describes Gilmont Summer Camp as “an amazing experience where my children have made lifelong friendships… Great way to get your kiddos out and make new memories.” Each year hundreds of children and youth gather to enjoy outdoor recreation and spiritual development with friends under the guidance of trained, college-aged counselors.  

This summer, Gilmont is offering three weeks of classic overnight camp, family camp, three specialty camps, and a new day camp program. The specialty camps – Adventure, Service and Leadership (SNL), and Forces of Nature – allow campers to engage in activities specific to their interests. Gilmont also offers a totally gluten free camp session called Great Gluten Escape.

Gilmont is currently hiring camp counselors. This is an ideal position for a young adult (ages 18-25) who identifies as a role-model and wants to enhance their professional skills with a fun and rewarding job outdoors.
