“Should you ask me for the world, somehow I’d get it,
I would sell my very soul and not regret it.
For to live without your love, it’s just impossible.”
Armanda Manzandero Canche, Sid Wayne
It’s impossible not to feel the love on this day each year when we focus extra hard on our mothers. It is a joy to see daughters and sons of all ages giving the ones that mothered them well-deserved attention, whether still living on earth or in their memories. I am forever grateful my own mother lived long enough for us to become the best of friends. It took us a long time to get there as we both had expectations of what a mother and a daughter “should” be that neither of us could ever live up to. When we finally accepted each other as the unique humans we are, we found we really liked one another and had so many good times together.
Good times abound in the Upper East Side of Texas this time of year. Enjoy the May flowers, farmers’ markets, food festivals, art exhibitions, and nature at its best. Don’t miss a visit to Caddo Mounds State Historic Site near Nacogdoches where you’re likely to pick up some heavy vibes of Mother Earth. — P.A. Geddie
