CHRISTUS Health celebrates expansion of robotic orthopedic program in Sulphur Springs

(SULPHUR SPRINGS, Texas) – CHRISTUS Health in Sulphur Springs is celebrating a major milestone in orthopedic care as Dr. Christopher Meltsakos recently performed his 1,000th Mako robotic-arm assisted surgery, coinciding with the hospital’s expansion of the program through the addition of a second Mako system.
The milestone reflects the growth of robotic-assisted orthopedic surgery in Sulphur Springs and the expertise Meltsakos and the surgical team have developed using the technology giving patients a reliable option for joint replacement close to home.
“Stepping back and looking at 1000 Mako procedures, what I really see are 1,000 individuals who trusted me to help them regain their mobility and quality of life. This is the biggest honor of being a surgeon and an honor that is magnified exponentially being in a small, supportive and caring community,” Meltsakos said. “I’m also extremely proud to work for an organization that continues to invest in technology and adding a second system demonstrates CHRISTUS’ commitment to making advanced orthopedic care available right here in Sulphur Springs.”
Meltsakos uses the Mako robotic-arm assisted platform for total knee, partial knee and total hip procedures. The technology supports an integrated approach to joint replacement, combining a surgeon’s expertise with robotic technology to deliver more personal care for each patient.
The second Mako system cuts wait times between procedures, expands the hospital’s robotic orthopedic capabilities and supports continued growth of its joint replacement program.
