KC Theatre opens 2026-27 Education Series for K-12 students
Student matinees, UIL clinic open for reservations
Kilgore College Theatre is now booking student groups for its 2026-27 Education Series, offering performances and events designed specifically for K-12 students.
The series includes two fall morning matinees and the college’s annual UIL One-Act Play Clinic in February, giving teachers theatre-based learning opportunities throughout the school year.
“Live theatre gives students the chance to see a story breathe in front of them, something a textbook can’t offer,” said Micah Goodding, director of theatre at KC. “Our Education Series is built around post-show conversations that keep students engaged long after the bus ride home.”
Each matinee supports classroom instruction in theatre, literature and social studies and includes:
- A post-show discussion with the cast
- Digital study guides for use before or after the performance
- Programming appropriate for students ages 10 and older
- Connections to Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills standards
Performances connect to TEKS standards in Theatre, including Historical and Cultural Relevance and Critical Evaluation and Response for grades 6-12, as well as English Language Arts standards involving theme, genre and drama. Educators may request grade-specific standards alignment when making reservations.
Fall 2026 student matinees:
All student matinees will begin at 10 a.m. in Van Cliburn Auditorium in the Anne Dean Turk Fine Arts Center.
- The Legend of Sleepy Hollow: Thursday and Friday, Oct. 8-9; The seasonal classic includes a post-show cast discussion and classroom-ready study guides.
- Eurydice: Thursday and Friday, Dec. 3-4; The modern adaptation of the Greek myth will be presented in partnership with the Texas Shakespeare Festival and includes educational resources and an interactive cast discussion.
Group pricing is $5 per student for groups of 10 or more and includes a 15-minute post-show discussion with the cast and access to digital study guides. Reservations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, and early booking is encouraged because morning matinee availability is limited. UIL One-Act Play Clinic:
The annual UIL One-Act Play Clinic is scheduled for Feb. 8-12, 2027, and is designed for student performers and directors preparing for UIL competition.
Each participating school will receive:
- A one-hour performance slot using the UIL unit set
- A one-hour critique from a certified UIL clinician
- Technical assistance and timing feedback
- Student promotional items and senior scholarship packets
- Optional tours of Kilgore College and the Texas Shakespeare Festival Center
Clinic pricing:
- Early registration: $250 if reserved by Dec. 1
- Standard registration: $300 after Dec. 1
