Wiley University appoints NCAA Division I Standout as 13th Head Women’s Basketball Coach 

MARSHALL, Texas — Wiley University is pleased to announce the appointment of Coach Destiny Lane Frazier, Ed.D., as the 13th head women’s basketball coach. She was formally introduced during a press conference at the Wiley University Welcome Center on Monday.

Dr. Frazier arrives in Marshall following a standout collegiate playing career at the NCAA Division I level and a track record of success as a head coach.

“I am honored and excited to lead the Lady Wildcats basketball program,” Dr. Frazier said. “Wiley University has a deep, historic legacy in women’s basketball, and I look forward to building upon that strong foundation while mentoring these young women to excel both on the court and in the classroom.”

A Proven Track Record of Success 

Dr. Frazier comes to Wiley University after serving as head coach at NCAA Division III LaGrange College (Ga.). In 2024-25, she led LaGrange to 15 victories and the semifinals of the Collegiate Conference of the South.

During her tenure at LaGrange, Dr. Frazier developed multiple First Team All-CCS honorees and College Sports Communicators Academic All-District student-athletes. Her teams were consistently ranked among the conference leaders in scoring offense, 3-pointers made, forcing turnovers, offensive rebounding, and scoring defense.

This past year, Frazier completed her Doctorate of Global Sports Leadership at East Tennessee State University.

Prior to LaGrange, Frazier served as an assistant coach at Berry College, helping guide the team to 33 victories in two seasons, consecutive Southern Athletic Association (SAA) semifinal appearances, and an SAA runner-up finish.

At the high school level, Dr. Frazier was named a Class 5A Coach of the Year, leading teams to Class 7A State Champion and runner-up finishes. Notably, she coached and mentored current WNBA player Sarah Ashlee Barker of the Portland Fire.

“Dr. Frazier has a great basketball mind,” said Wiley University Director of Athletics Dr. Darrius Brooks. “She is a tremendous addition to our department, especially right before the season. I believe she will continue to build on our program’s championship culture.”

Division I Playing Elite & Academic Excellence 

As a student-athlete, Frazier was a four-year player and team captain at Jacksonville State University (NCAA Division I). A premier scorer who averaged 16 points per game, she ranks among the program’s all-time leaders in scoring and minutes played, and was recognized as one of the top 3-point shooters in the Ohio Valley Conference.

Her basketball career began at Ashville High School in Alabama, where she was a three-time All-State selection, surpassed 2,000 career points, and set her school’s single-game scoring record with 42 points.

An accomplished scholar, Dr. Frazier holds:

• Doctorate of Global Sports Leadership – East Tennessee State University Inheriting a Championship-Caliber Squad 

Frazier takes over a thriving Lady Wildcats program returning nine players from last season’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) West Division Championship squad. The 2025 – 26 team posted a 16-8 record and advanced to the semifinals of the Hope Credit Union HBCUAC Basketball Championship for the second consecutive year.

Founded in 1976 following the passage of Title IX, the Wiley University women’s basketball program boasts a rich history of excellence:

• 4 NAIA National Championship Appearances (2008, 2013, 2014, 2015), highlighted by a run to the Fab Four in 2014.
• 8 Regular Season Conference or Division Titles, including last season’s HBCUAC West Division crown.
• 2013 Red River Athletic Conference Tournament Championship.
