AUSTIN – The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) has awarded two Texas high schools and one middle school the My Texas Future School of Excellence award for their energetic efforts to help students plan their educational futures by using the state’s My Texas Future website to facilitate their advising. The winners of these awards, presented for the first time, are: Tornillo High School, in Tornillo ISD Copperas Cove High School, in Copperas Cove ISD Jose J. Alderete Middle School, in Canutillo ISD Each school demonstrated outstanding commitment to using My Texas Future, with a high percentage of its students engaging with the tool by completing profiles, exploring careers, and researching higher education programs. “School leaders and counselors serve as trusted advisors to students, who are making formative college and career choices that will guide their future. Our award recipients are exemplars, and we are proud to recognize these honorees for integrating My Texas Future into their counseling and advising efforts, strengthening the support they provide as students navigate their educational pathways,” said Commissioner of Higher Education Wynn Rosser. “My Texas Future is one of the tools we can use to help our students prepare for successful careers by exploring jobs that align with their interests and goals. By answering a few questions, students can discover different career paths and the credentials required to enter those fields. Seeing our schools and students embrace this resource gives me confidence that, together, we are advancing our state’s Building a Talent Strong Texas strategic plan, helping more Texans earn credentials that offer value in the workforce and lead to meaningful careers, whether they choose to pursue a certificate or a research doctorate.” The My Texas Future recognition program kicked off last September, when the THECB invited Texas public middle and high schools to adopt the MTF tools and engage their students in college and career exploration. Engagement was measured over a five-month period, with awardees demonstrating high levels of use. My Texas Future, launched in 2023, is a one-stop digital hub for education and career planning. It provides Texas secondary students, college students and working adults, with online tools to explore careers and job markets, build resumes and study habits, learn about different financial aid options, and compare hundreds of high-demand careers across Texas based on regional demand, salary, required education, and skills. They can also compare higher education programs by cost, and earnings beyond graduation. One component, Direct Admissions, helps the college-bound see which Texas colleges they could get into before filling out applications. My Texas Future is also connected to Apply Texas, the single unified application that allows users to apply to any Texas public university with a single submission. | | | | |
