Honoring a Legacy: Newman Residence Hall Dedication

JCU TO HOST FOUNDERS CONVOCATION AND DEDICATE LESTER C. NEWMAN RESIDENCE HALL

HAWKINS, Texas (March 19, 2026) — Jarvis Christian University will celebrate its rich history and continued progress during the annual J.N. Ervin Founders Convocation on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. in Smith-Howard Chapel, followed immediately by the dedication of the Lester C. Newman Residence Hall.

The Founders Convocation serves as one of the university’s most significant annual traditions, honoring the legacy of its founding and reaffirming its commitment to educating students intellectually, socially, and spiritually. This year’s convocation will feature guest speaker Rev. Clarence L. Johnson, Senior Pastor of Mills Grove Christian Church in Oakland, California, whose message is expected to inspire reflection on faith, leadership, and purpose.

Immediately following the convocation, the university will host a dedication ceremony for the Lester C. Newman Residence Hall, named in honor of Dr. Lester C. Newman, the institution’s 12th president and president emeritus, who served from 2012 to 2023. The naming recognizes Dr. Newman’s leadership and his contributions to strengthening the university’s foundation and advancing its mission.

“The Founders Convocation and residence hall dedication together represent both the legacy and the future of Jarvis Christian University,” said Glenell M. Lee-Pruitt, 13th President and CEO. “As we honor those who established this institution and those who have led it forward, we also reaffirm our commitment to creating transformative experiences for our students.”

Residence life remains a central component of the Jarvis experience, providing students with a supportive environment where they can grow academically, socially, and personally. The Lester C. Newman Residence Hall will serve as a vital space for student development and community building for generations to come.

The combined events are expected to draw alumni, trustees, students, faculty, staff, and supporters from across the region, offering a meaningful opportunity to celebrate both heritage and progress at Jarvis.

As the university continues to expand its academic programs, strengthen partnerships, and invest in student success, these milestone events underscore Jarvis Christian University’s ongoing commitment to excellence and impact.
