Virtual pesticide continuing education units program slated for March 6

The webinar will feature morning and afternoon sessions and include an hour-and-a-half break for lunch. The cost of the webinar is $35. Register at tx.ag/OvertonVirtualPesticideProgram. Registration is available until 4 p.m. on March 5.

About the course

Participants will receive five Texas Department of Agriculture pesticide continuing education units — one laws and regulations, two integrated pest management and two general.

Topics offered include:

Morning session — 8:30-11:30 a.m.

• Aquatic weed identification and control, Brittany Chesser, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service aquatic vegetation management program specialist and lead diagnostic scientist at AgriLife Extension’s Aquatic Diagnostics Laboratory, Texas A&M Department of Rangeland, Wildlife and Fisheries Management, Bryan-College Station.
• Pasture mealybug and other forage insect pests, David Kerns, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension entomologist and associate department head, Department of Entomology, Bryan-College Station.
• Laws and regulations of pesticide use, Vanessa Corriher-Olson, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension forage specialist and professor, Department of Soil and Crop Sciences, and Jason Banta, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension beef cattle specialist and professor, Department of Animal Science, both in Overton.

Afternoon session — 1-3 p.m.

• Mosquitoes of Texas: the good, the bad, the ugly, Gabe Hamer, Ph.D., Texas A&M AgriLife Research entomologist and professor, Department of Entomology, Bryan-College Station.
• Integrated weed management in pastures and hay meadows, Corriher-Olson.
