Texas continues to be the nation’s top destination for domestic migration, according to the latest U.S. Census Bureau data. In 2024, roughly 550K people moved to Texas from other states, while about 480K left, resulting in a strong net gain.

Texas saw the largest net domestic migrants of new residents from California, New York, and New Jersey, with California alone contributing the highest number of new Texans. The map also highlights the states where Texas experienced net outflows, including Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Colorado. Overall, the data underscores Texas’ ongoing appeal as a place to live, work, and build a future.

2024 Community Resilience Estimates and Ranking Tables by Natural Hazard Risk
The U.S. Census Bureau recently released the 2024 Community Resilience Estimates (CRE), which highlight areas in the United States most socially vulnerable to the impacts from natural disasters. Community resilience is the capacity of individuals and households within a community to absorb the external stresses of a disaster and include components such as poverty, number of caregivers in the household, unit-level crowding, communication barrier, unemployment, disability, health insurance coverage, age, vehicle access, and broadband internet access. Natural hazard ratings come from the March 2023 release of the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s National Risk Index.

The Census Bureau ranks all counties in the U.S. according to the percentage of their population that have 3 or more components of social vulnerability and below are the top 5 counties in Texas with these components.
