The statewide gas price average in Texas is $2.45 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is five cents less when compared to this day last week and is 29 cents less per gallon compared to this day last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in San Angelo are paying the most on average at $2.64 per gallon while drivers in the Lubbock area are paying the least at $2.27 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $2.89, which is two cents more when compared to this day last week and 23 cents less when compared to this day last year.
While the national average ticked up slightly, the Texas statewide gas price average declined week over week, with most metro areas seeing prices move lower. Gasoline demand remains soft as colder weather keeps fewer drivers on the road. However, this seasonal lull is likely nearing its end, as pump prices typically begin to trend higher heading into spring, when refineries start transitioning to more expensive summer-blend gasoline production.
“Colder weather is keeping gasoline demand down across Texas, which has helped ease prices in many parts of the state,” said Daniel Armbruster, AAA Texas spokesperson. “That seasonal pattern usually changes as spring approaches and refineries begin the switch to summer-blend gasoline.”
