East Texas Forage Conference set for Aug. 15 in Hallsville

Winter forage selection, herbicide trial update among topics on agenda

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will host the East Texas Forage Conference on Aug. 15 in Hallsville.

The conference will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Gold Hall, 101 Elm St. The cost of the event is $20 per person, and registration is available by calling the AgriLife Extension office for Gregg County at 903-236-8429. Deadline to RSVP is Aug. 4.

A total of five Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units will be available for private pesticide applicator license holders — three general and two integrated pest management.

On the agenda

Producers will learn about the latest updates and trends in forage management from AgriLife Extension specialists.

Topics and speakers include:

  • Winter forage selection and management — Vanessa Corriher-Olson, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension forage specialist and professor, Texas A&M Department of Soil and Crop Sciences, Overton.
  • Aquatic weed identification and management utilizing biological and chemical options — Tyson Keese, AgriLife Extension pond management specialist, Department of Rangeland, Wildlife and Fisheries Management, Overton.
  • Herbicide trial update — Clint Perkins, AgriLife Extension agriculture and natural resources agent, Smith County.
  • Weed identification and management options — Perkins.
  • Utilizing integrated pest management to manage pests of Texas forages — Lee Dudley, AgriLife Extension agriculture and natural resources agent, Panola County.
