AAA Texas: Gas Prices Move Up Before Holiday Weekend

The statewide gas price average in Texas is now $3.69 for a gallon of regular unleaded, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is six cents more than a week ago and 92 cents more per gallon than on this day last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in El Paso are paying the most on average at $3.97 per gallon, while drivers in Tyler are paying the least at $3.55 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $4.14, which is five cents higher than last week and 95 cents more compared to this day last year.

Texas is the second least expensive state in the U.S. for gas behind Indiana, which today has an average price of $3.44 per gallon. Prices throughout the country have risen in response to continued oil price and supply uncertainty.

“Texans filling up for Labor Day holidays will spend about $15-$20 on average for a full tank compared to this time last year,” said AAA Texas Corporate Communications Manager Doug Shupe. “AAA Texas recommends using an online tool such as the free AAA Mobile app to shop around virtually for the cheapest gas prices near you.”
