FINE ARTS LECTURE AT LETOURNEAU UNIVERSITY

(Longview, Texas)—LeTourneau University’s Fall 2026 Fine Arts & Humanities Lecture Series will kick off with a lecture titled “The History of Rock Music.”  (Poster above)

The lecture will be held on Thursday, September 10 at 11:00 AM in the Berry Auditorium of the Glaske Center for Engineering, Science & Technology on the LeTourneau University campus.

Dr. Jim Taylor, Director of Fine Arts and Professor of Music at LeTourneau, will trace the developments of rock music from rhythm and blues in the 1950s through the music of the late 1970s, illustrating his comments with clips of the most formative artists of each genre.

Dr. Taylor has played in rock groups, attended concerts of leading artists in the ‘60s and ‘70s, and was part of the throng of hippies at Woodstock.  He is a widely published composer and arranger, record producer, and current performer of vintage pop music; academically, he has degrees in Music Composition, Studio Writing and Production, and Choral Conducting.  He has conducted his own choral/orchestral works at Carnegie Hall and in Paris, Kyiv, Budapest and Vienna.
