KAUFMAN COUNTY FATAL CRASH
Kaufman County – On August 29, 2026, at approximately 4:25 a.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety (TXDPS) Highway Patrol (HP) responded to a two-vehicle crash on US-80 near FM-460.
A preliminary investigation indicates an Infiniti QX3 was traveling east on US-80 in the exit lane to FM 460. A Chevrolet Silverado was traveling eastbound on US-80 in the right lane. The driver of the Infiniti made an unsafe left lane change, striking the Silverado. The collision caused the Silverado to lose control, strike a concrete barrier, and roll over, coming to rest on its roof. The Infiniti continued and struck a concrete barrier.
The driver of the Infiniti, Jaylin Maliq Chestnut, a 25-year-old from Converse, Texas, and two passengers were not injured.
The driver of the Chevrolet, Juana Berenice Chavez Ojeda, a 39-year-old from Forney, Texas, was transported to a local medical facility where she was pronounced deceased. An 8-month-old baby was also transported to a local medical facility with suspected serious injuries.
The investigation is ongoing, and no additional information is available.
