ET4L hears from Commissioner Elect Spencer and Texas Criminal Court of Appeals Judge Kevin Yeary
On August 11, East Texans for Liberty welcomed Judge Kevin Yeary of the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals and Upshur County Commissioner-Elect Mike Spencer for their regular monthly meeting at The Grange, formerly Barbwire Halo Cowboy Church.
Commissioner-Elect Spencer shared his vision for working alongside incoming County Judge Brandon Dodd and Commissioners Nicholson, Dolle, and Ashley as they address the opportunities and challenges facing Upshur County. His remarks covered several issues important to our county’s future, including protecting our valuable natural resource—water, the proposed Gilmer Loop, property taxes, and the growing presence of data centers in Texas.
Judge Yeary was warmly welcomed by many Upshur County supporters, along with members of the Sixth Court of Appeals—Justice Jeff Rambin, Chief Justice Scott Stevens, and Justice Charles van Cleef.
With the November General Election approaching, Judge Yeary discussed his experience on the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, the court’s important role in our judicial system, and several misconceptions.
In September, East Texans for Liberty will not hold its regular free public monthly meeting. Instead, the organization will host its 12th Annual Stars of Texas Gala on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, in the ETex Room at the Gilmer Civic Center.
This star-studded, red-carpet evening will feature a prime rib dinner, cash bar, and the recognition of more than a dozen outstanding individuals who have demonstrated excellence through their service and contributions to their communities in Upshur County and throughout Texas Senate District 1.
The evening’s keynote speaker will be State Representative Cody Harris, Chairman of the Texas House Committee on Natural Resources.
Tickets are now available, with Early Bird pricing through September 3.
The Stars of Texas Gala is East Texans for Liberty’s largest annual fundraiser. Funds raised help make possible the organization’s educational scholarships for students continuing their education at colleges, universities, and trade schools, as well as the many projects and programs ET4L supports throughout the year.
Those efforts include advocating for Texas schoolchildren, protecting innocent life, supporting limited and responsible government, defending our constitutional liberties, and preserving the values of faith, family, freedom, and opportunity for future generations.
For twelve years, the Stars of Texas Gala has provided an opportunity not only to recognize those who make a difference in East Texas, but also to help ensure that East Texans for Liberty can continue their work of educating, engaging, and advocating for the principles and communities we hold dear.
