The statewide gas price average in Texas is $3.64 for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel, according to AAA Texas. That price is one cent more than on this day last week and 89 cents more per gallon compared to this day last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in El Paso are paying the most on average at $3.96 per gallon, while drivers in Beaumont-Port Arthur, Houston and Tyler are paying the least at $3.56 per gallon. The national average is $4.10, three cents more than a week ago and 97 cents more than a year ago.
Gas price trends remain mixed across Texas, with some metropolitan areas seeing increases while others posted declines over the past week. Gasoline demand has eased as the summer travel season winds down, which would typically help place downward pressure on pump prices. However, crude oil prices remain elevated and continue to influence the cost of gasoline. As a result, drivers may continue to see modest fluctuations at the pump in the weeks ahead.
“Texas gas prices moved slightly higher this week, but the statewide average remains relatively stable,” said Daniel Armbruster, spokesperson for AAA Texas. “We’re seeing a mixed picture across the state, with prices rising in some communities and falling in others. Lower gasoline demand could provide some relief as summer winds down, but crude oil prices will continue to be an important factor in determining what drivers pay at the pump.”
