The Smith Advisory LLC Launches The Smith Advisory Journal to Help Small-Business Owners Make Better Tax, AI-Bookkeeping and Financial Decisions
New educational publication translates complicated financial topics into practical information for entrepreneurs, real-estate investors and small-business owners.
The Smith Advisory LLC has launched The Smith Advisory Journal, an online publication created to help small-business owners, entrepreneurs and real-estate investors better understand the tax, bookkeeping and financial issues that can affect their businesses.
Published at TheSmithAdvisory.com, The Smith Advisory Journal examines topics that business owners frequently encounter but may not have the time or resources to research independently. Recent subjects include QuickBooks user permissions, S corporation stock basis, small-business hiring challenges, tax deductions, cash-flow management and changes in the economy.
The publication’s objective is to make complex financial subjects easier to understand without overwhelming readers with technical language.
“Many small-business owners are trying to manage their companies, serve their customers and keep up with their financial responsibilities at the same time,” said Shaun Smith, Enrolled Agent and founder of The Smith Advisory LLC. “The Smith Advisory Journal was created to help readers slow down, examine important tax and financial questions. To understand why those questions may matter to their businesses.”
Unlike publications written primarily for accountants or tax professionals, The Smith Advisory Journal approaches financial topics from the business owner’s point of view. Articles frequently begin with a practical question and then examine the tax rules, bookkeeping principles, financial risks or economic developments connected to it.
Topics covered by the Journal include:
- Tax planning and tax-readiness for small businesses
- Bookkeeping practices and QuickBooks controls
- S corporations, LLCs and other business structures
- Cash-flow and financial-system management
- Real-estate and rental-property accounting
- Small-business hiring and operational challenges
- Economic developments affecting entrepreneurs and investors
- Common financial mistakes business owners can identify and address
The Journal also helps readers understand how different parts of a business’s financial system work together. A tax problem, for example, may begin with incomplete records. A cash-flow problem may be difficult to diagnose if financial statements are inaccurate. Weak software permissions can create internal-control risks even when the company’s books appear correct.
“Tax returns, bookkeeping records, cash flow and internal controls should not be viewed as completely separate subjects,” Smith said. “They are connected parts of the same financial system. When business owners understand those connections, they are in a better position to ask informed questions and make thoughtful decisions.”
Smith became a federally licensed Enrolled Agent in 2026 and established The Smith Advisory LLC to provide tax, bookkeeping, financial-systems and even AI assistance. Enrolled Agents are tax professionals authorized to represent taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service.
The Smith Advisory Journal supports the firm’s broader goal of helping business owners develop clearer, more dependable financial systems. The publication is educational and does not provide individualized tax, legal, investment or financial advice. Readers are encouraged to consult an appropriate professional regarding their specific circumstances.
Current subscriptions to The Smith Advisory Journal are available at no cost. Subscribers receive new articles and practical financial information by email.
