CHRISTUS Health celebrates new chapel, 10 years of faith-based care in Sulphur Springs

(SULPHUR SPRINGS, Texas) – CHRISTUS Health Sulphur Springs celebrated the blessing and opening of a new chapel on Wednesday, creating a dedicated space for patients, families, Associates and visitors to find prayer, peace and spiritual comfort as part of the ministry’s commitment to caring for the whole person.

The chapel reflects the mission of CHRISTUS Health to extend the healing ministry of Jesus Christ by ensuring spiritual care is readily accessible alongside exceptional medical care. Open daily, the chapel will provide a welcoming place for reflection, prayer and worship, while supporting the hospital’s chaplaincy ministry and the sacramental needs of patients and families from all religious beliefs.

Most Reverend Gregory Kelly, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Tyler, along with community and hospital leaders gathered to celebrate the chapel’s opening.

“Healthcare is about far more than treating illness,” said Father Justin Wylie. “It is about caring for the mind, body and spirit. This chapel is a visible reminder that Christ is present in this hospital every day, offering hope, healing and peace to all who enter. We pray this sacred space becomes a source of strength and comfort for everyone who walks through its doors.”

The chapel blessing also marks a significant milestone as CHRISTUS Health celebrates 10 years of serving the Sulphur Springs community. Since joining CHRISTUS in 2016, the hospital has experienced remarkable growth, expanding access to specialty care while investing in the future of rural healthcare.

Recent milestones include a $25 million hospital investment for a new surgical wing, the opening of a Heart and Vascular Institute, a new 16,500-square-foot multi-specialty clinic for gastroenterology, general surgery, orthopedics, pain management and pulmonology, expanded ear, nose and throat services and a first-of-its-kind partnership with Texas A&M University to help train the next generation of rural physicians.
