Upshur County Sheriff’s Office Hosting Church Safety Seminar

The Upshur County Sheriff’s Office has announced it will host an upcoming Church Safety Seminar on Aug. 1 designed to help local places of worship strengthen their security protocols and protect their congregations.

The seminar aims to equip faith-based leaders, security teams, and church staff with actionable strategies to mitigate risks and respond effectively to potential threats. While a primary focus of the event centers on emergency preparedness and active shooter response, organizers emphasize that comprehensive church safety also encompasses daily situational awareness, medical crisis planning, and volunteer coordination.

The Sheriff’s Office will provide expert guidance on how to form dedicated security ministries, conduct physical vulnerability assessments of church properties, and implement de-escalation techniques.

Local pastors, administrative staff, and anyone interested in joining or developing a place of worship safety team are encouraged to attend. Additional details regarding registration requirements, specific scheduling, and the host location can be found directly through the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office.
