| DENTON, Texas – FEMA Region 6 announced more than $144 million to help Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas strengthen community resilience, restore critical infrastructure and invest in mitigation measures to reduce future disaster damage. This funding is part of the $584 million approved nationwide through FEMA’s Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities, Public Assistance and Hazard Mitigation Grant Programs. These programs help states, local communities, tribes and territories to rebuild safer communities and protect infrastructure from future events. The funding supports President Donald J. Trump’s commitment to improving federal disaster assistance and investing in projects that protect Americans. Public Assistance Funding The funding includes more than $140 million under FEMA’s Public Assistance program across Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. Examples of Public Assistance projects include: - Nearly $16 million to Lone Star College’s Kingwood, Texas, campus for permanent repairs to 10 buildings after Hurricane Harvey in 2017.
- Nearly $12 million to the Louisiana Office of Risk Management for management costs after Hurricane Laura in 2020.
- More than $4 million to Cimmaron Electric Cooperative in Oklahoma for permanent repairs to the Concho Substation power distribution system after a severe winter storm in 2020.
- More than $1.1 million to the New Mexico Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management for debris removal after wildfires, flooding, mudflows and straight-line winds in 2022.
- More than $100,000 to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission for culvert and road repair after severe storms, tornadoes and flooding in 2025.
Hazard Mitigation Grant Program Funding FEMA is also awarding nearly $4 million for projects in Louisiana, New Mexico and Texas through the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program to prevent or reduce future disaster damage. Examples of Hazard Mitigation Grant Program projects include: - More than $1 million to Texas for the Hardin County Hurricane Safe Room for a 7,127 square foot safe room to provide protection to first responders and community members.
- More than $770,000 to New Mexico for generators for critical facilities in the Village of Ruidoso.
- More than $500,000 to Louisiana for generators in St. Bernard Parish.
