AAA Texas: Gas Prices Reverse Course, Begin Rising In Most Areas As Middle East Tensions Escalate
The statewide gas price average in Texas is now $3.41 for a gallon of regular unleaded, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is seven cents more than a week ago and 61 cents more per gallon compared to this day last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in El Paso are paying the most on average at $3.91 per gallon, while drivers in Tyler are paying the least at $3.29 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.84, which is one cent more than this day last week and 68 cents more compared to this day last year.

Oil prices have risen in the past week to between $74 and $78 a barrel as of this morning, compared to near $70 a barrel last week, after escalating attacks on ships through the Strait of Hormuz and additional strikes in Iran and other Middle East countries.

“Pump prices have risen in the last few days because of the increased anxiety around worldwide oil supply,” said AAA Texas Corporate Communications Manager Doug Shupe. “It’s difficult to know whether this is a trend that will continue or just a temporary pause to the downward price trend that has been happening since May.”
