Celebrating Freedom

I was honored to speak at the Green Acres Baptist Church Celebrate Freedom event. I joined thousands of our neighbors to celebrate our faith and freedom together. Events like this remind me why I am grateful to be an American. Grateful to enjoy the God-given rights of liberty; grateful for the opportunity to live out the American Dream and to fulfill the Great Commandment; grateful for the freedom; the privilege, and the responsibility to stand at attention with my hand over my heart, pledge allegiance to our flag, and feel the goose bumps of patriotism on my skin and deep within my soul. Grateful for followers of Christ who know that virtue and morality and righteousness are inseparable from the preservation of our Republic and the enjoyment of our liberty.

House Votes to Protect Taxpayer Dollars and Children Online

| This week, two key pieces of legislation passed the House. One clears a path to recover nearly $1 billion in stranded pandemic unemployment funds from banks, while the other delivers strong online safety protections for children across America.
H.R. 8873 – Recover COVID Unemployment Fraud in Banks Act This bill addresses the massive scale of fraud in COVID-19 pandemic unemployment programs by establishing a coordinated federal effort to claw back stolen funds and extending the window to prosecute offenders. It creates a National Recovery Coordinator and an interagency Task Force to assist states in identifying and recovering improper payments currently sitting in financial institutions, particularly on prepaid debit cards. H.R.7757 – Kids Internet and Digital Safety Act This bill would empower parents by requiring social media platforms to provide readily accessible parental controls, protects kids’ privacy by banning targeted advertising to children and teens, prohibits market research on children, and mandates age verification to access sexually explicit materials. This bill marks the most comprehensive piece of legislation that protects our children by strengthening parents’ rights and holds tech companies accountable. |

Fourth of July in Washington, D.C.

It was an honor to welcome a wonderful group of East Texans who made the journey to Washington, D.C., to commemorate America 250. During their visit, I had the pleasure of leading a tour of the Capitol, where we explored the hallowed halls and chambers that have shaped American democracy for nearly two and a half centuries. Always great to have the East Texas spirit in Washington. Grateful to ring in the momentous occasion with our neighbors from across Texas’ First District.
