MABANK FIRE CHIEF KILLED IN CRASH
Kaufman County – On Saturday, June 27, 2026, at approximately 10:30 p.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety (TXDPS) Highway Patrol (HP) was requested to assist with a vehicle vs pedestrian crash on US Business 175 and County Road (CR) 4006 in the City of Mabank.
A preliminary investigation indicates a pedestrian was on US Business 175 (W. Mason St) directing traffic near the rodeo grounds. The pedestrian stepped into the westbound lane and was struck by a Chevrolet pickup.
The pedestrian directing traffic, Mabank Fire Chief Charles Woodard, was taken to a local medical facility where he succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the Chevrolet was not injured.
