Welcome to week 3 of 10. For this week’s Texas educator spotlight, meet Kristen Shaver
Kristen sent 3 students to Nationals for the first time ever. Help her do it again by donating today.
Your donation provides immediate support for teachers to participate in Texas History Day and National History Day by offsetting travel costs, providing stipends for judges, supporting dedicated teachers who lead Junior Historians chapters, and helping teachers implement new Texas history standards.
Your support directly impacts classrooms across the state—classrooms like Kristen Shaver’s.
Kristen is the 8th Grade U.S. History Teacher and Social Studies Department Chair at Hornedo Middle School in El Paso. In just three years, she has mentored over 300 students. This year, she reached a major milestone: sending three students to Nationals for the very first time, while also being selected for the prestigious NHD Young People’s Continental Congress!
Kristen Shaver
“The competition process itself builds resilience through revisions, feedback and interviews with judges. All of this, not to mention the teamwork, confidence and friendships developed, make NHD valuable for students long after the competitions end.”
“Seeing the skills NHD promotes in students has made me passionate about promoting the program within my school and beyond.”
