UT Tyler School of Nursing Hosts Annual Simulation Boot Camp for K-12 School Nurses

TYLER (June 11, 2026) – The University of Texas at Tyler School of Nursing will host the School Nurse  Simulation Boot Camp: Altered Mental Status. The event will be 8 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Friday, July 17,  and equips K-12 school nurses with hands-on, critical care simulation training.

The immersive boot camp focuses on recognizing, assessing and responding to altered mental  status within the school environment. Participants will engage in high-fidelity simulation  experiences tailored to meet the regional needs of Northeast Texas school districts. Participants will  earn 6.50 Nurse Continuing Professional Development Contact Hours.

“The School Nurse Boot Camps were started in 2023 to fill a gap in Northeast Texas by providing  local, face-to-face professional development opportunities for school nurses,” said Dr. Jodi Bullard,  event coordinator and assistant professor. “The July 2026 event will be our seventh offering of the  Simulation Boot Camp, and the overarching topic for this session will be Altered Mental Status.  We’re excited about the addition of high-fidelity simulation opportunities which will actively engage  participants in scenarios that could result in altered mental status in the school setting. We’re  looking forward to the boot camp and the opportunity to support the school nurses of Northeast  Texas and the patient population that they serve.”
