El Paso, TX – Magoffin Home State Historic Site invites the public to tour the active restoration of the Magoffin Home’s historic adobe walls in a limited-space hard hat tour of the site, beginning Wednesday, June 10. The Magoffin Home is currently closed for general tours as a multi-million-dollar restoration will carefully repair 150-year-old adobe bricks within the mansion’s 17-foot-tall walls. During hard hat tours, guests will be led by knowledgeable interpreters through the Magoffin Home’s interior and exterior spaces and have a chance to watch the adobe experts at work. The guided walk will include detailed explanations of the adobe restoration process, glimpses of artifacts newly discovered by this recent work, and a chance to see parts of the building not visible since the walls first rose in the 1870s. Hard hat tours are available on limited Wednesdays and Saturdays during June and July, and are expected to continue throughout construction. More dates will be announced as the project continues. Tours are for guests aged 6 and above, and all guests must wear site-provided hard hats, close-toed shoes, and long pants. Ticket prices are $7 for adults, $6 for seniors, and $4 for students. Reservations are strongly recommended, as space is limited due to safety. The home is closed for other tours due to the restoration project, but the visitor center’s museum store and exhibits are open Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. About Magoffin Home State Historic Site Located in downtown El Paso, this unique adobe homestead tells the stories of a multicultural family that influenced the development of the Southwest borderlands.
