URECC Announces Completion of ETEC and NTEC Merger

Upshur-Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation (URECC) is pleased to announce the successful completion of the merger between East Texas Electric Cooperative (ETEC) and North East Texas Electric Cooperative (NTEC). These two entities are generation and transmission partners of URECC. Effective June 1, 2026, the merged organization began operating under the name East Texas Electric Cooperative (ETEC) and serve the following distribution cooperatives:

• Bowie-Cass Electric Cooperative, Inc.
• Deep East Electric Cooperative, Inc.
• Cherokee County Electric Cooperative Association
• Houston County Electric Cooperative, Inc.
• Jasper-Newton Electric Cooperative, Inc.
• Panola-Harrison Electric Cooperative, Inc.
• Rusk County Electric Cooperative, Inc.
• Upshur Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation
• Wood County Electric Cooperative, Inc.

URECC expects this merger to bring positive benefits to our Membership. The consolidation is designed to create operational efficiencies and reduce administrative costs, helping to manage wholesale power expenses and support long-term affordability for Members. Additionally, the merged organization is expected to strengthen risk management through greater diversification and reduced load, power supply, and hedging risks, creating a more resilient generation and transmission partner for URECC. These improvements may also positively impact the Power Cost Recovery Factor (PCRF) over time.

“URECC’s Mission of affordable, safe and reliable energy to support our Members and our Communities remains at the forefront of what we do here at the Cooperative,” said Robert Walker, General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of URECC. “This decision to merge two great companies into one will bring significant and immediate benefits to Members as well as provide a much stronger power supplier for all of East Texas in the years to come. Where power supply represents some 67-70% of every Member’s bill, any opportunity to lower cost and improve stability is worth the choice.”

As always, Upshur Rural Electric Cooperative is looking for ways to improve reliability, affordability, and service for our Members. We are committed to being good stewards of cooperative funds and resources. Everything we do at Upshur Rural Electric Cooperative is guided by our commitment to serve our Members.
