This week, the long-awaited primary runoff elections came to an end, with voters across the state finalizing their party’s picks for the general election. We provide a quick rundown of the results, and highlight another instance of voters rejecting an influx of pro-casino cash. Plus, Texas Tech star quarterback Brendan Sorsby has been ruled ineligible to play by the NCAA following an investigation into his prolific sports betting activity, but Texas Tech is appealing the ruling on his behalf. If successful, it would set a dangerous precedent for college sports, an industry already struggling with the harmful effects of normalized predatory-gambling. And, in case you missed it, billions of dollar in new debt through bond packages were added to the debt rolls earlier this month, increasing the property tax burden on millions of Texans.
