SWEPCO Issues Request for Proposals to Support Reliability and Future Energy Needs

SHREVEPORT, La. (May 26, 2026) – Southwestern Electric Power Co. (SWEPCO), is seeking submissions for its three Request for Proposals (RFPs) for additional generation and capacity resources to supply the needs of its customers and comply with Southwest Power Pool’s planning reserve margin requirement.

This RFP reflects SWEPCO’s long-term planning process, which accounts for a range of factors including overall customer growth, economic development, and the retirement of older generation assets. This RFP is not tied to any single project, and SWEPCO will continue its focus providing safe, reliable, and affordable electricity.

The RFPs will solicit bids for the purchase of resources of up to 3,000 MW of new accredited capacity and associated energy needed for SWEPCO customers through a range of sources, including natural gas, wind, solar, and storage resources. These future projects will further diversify SWEPCO’s generation resource mix and support SWEPCO’s ongoing planning efforts to maintain reliable electric service while preparing for future energy needs across its service territory. SWEPCO is requesting proposals for these resources through purchase and sale agreements (PSA), power purchase agreements (PPA) and capacity purchase agreements (CPA).

In accordance with Louisiana regulatory requirements, SWEPCO issued the 2026 All-Source RFP on May 26. Those wishing to participate and submit an RFP can learn more at https://www.swepco.com/business/b2b/energy-rfps/.

Proposals are due July 29. Response and contact information are available online at SWEPCO.com/rfp. Proposals selected from the three RFPs are subject to appropriate regulatory approvals.
