Southern Arkansas University named Purple Star Campus for support of military students and families

MAGNOLIA, AR (05/20/2026) Southern Arkansas University has been recognized as a Purple Star Campus by the Arkansas Department of Education and the Arkansas Division of Higher Education, honoring the University’s commitment to serving military-connected students and families.

The Purple Star Campus designation recognizes colleges and universities that demonstrate a strong commitment to supporting military-affiliated students through resources, programming, and campus engagement. Institutions earning the recognition must meet standards related to military student support services, communication, campus resources, and community partnerships.

“Southern Arkansas University is honored to be recognized as a Purple Star Campus,” said Dr. Bruno Hicks. “Military service members, veterans, and their families bring leadership, resilience, and valuable perspectives to our campus community. We are proud to support them as they pursue their educational and professional goals at SAU.”

The Purple Star Campus initiative highlights institutions that create welcoming and supportive environments for military-connected students, including active-duty service members, veterans, reservists, National Guard members, and military families.

SAU offers a variety of services and resources for military-affiliated students, including admissions and enrollment assistance, academic advising, financial aid support, and connections to campus and community resources. Through SAU’s Veterans Resource Office, located in Nelson Hall, military-connected students can also receive assistance with VA education benefits, enrollment certification, educational checklists, study space, and support designed to help veterans and their families successfully transition to and thrive in college life.

“At SAU, we work closely with our military-connected students to help make the transition to college as smooth as possible and ensure they have the support they need every step of the way,” said Keisha Crisp, assistant registrar and Veterans Affairs School Certifying Official. “From helping students navigate VA education benefits to connecting them with campus resources, we are committed to serving those who have served our country.”

The recognition aligns with SAU’s ongoing commitment to student success, access, and service to the region and nation.
