Registration open for Texas A&M Beef Cattle Short Course Aug. 3-5

AgriLife Extension educational event highlights include Cattleman’s College, trade show

Registration is open for the 72nd annual Texas A&M Beef Cattle Short Course on Aug. 3-5 in Bryan-College Station. The event is hosted by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and the Texas A&M College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Department of Animal Science.

One of the longest-running and largest beef cattle educational events of its kind in the world, the short course attracts almost 2,000 attendees from around the world, said Jason Cleere, Ph.D., conference coordinator and AgriLife Extension statewide beef cattle specialist in the Department of Animal Science, Bryan-College Station.

Both in-person and virtual attendance are offered. The cost is $300 for in-person attendance and $99 for virtual registration for Aug. 3-4 only. A $40 fee will be charged for late registration after July 28.

The conference’s Youth Track is also available for high school students to learn more about hands-on beef cattle production. Registration for youth is $150.

Hot topics on the agenda

Cattle market trends, herd rebuilding, weather outlook, New World screwwormpasture mealy bug and the U.S. farm bill will all be hot topics discussed throughout the program, as well as other emerging issues, Cleere said.

Producers are offered more than 50 hours of training on basic ranching practices, new technologies and trending topics in beef cattle production during Cattleman’s College. Cattleman’s College features over 20 concurrent sessions and live-animal and chute-side demonstrations.

At least nine Texas Department of Agriculture pesticide continuing education units will be offered during the sessions.

Attendees will also have access to over 150 agriculture-related business and trade show exhibitors.

Related events

A Ranch Horse Program included with the full Beef Cattle Short Course registration will be offered on Aug. 2 at the Thomas G. Hildebrand, DVM ’56 Equine Complex. Those interested in only the ranch horse program can register for $125.

Up to 32 hours of continuing education credits will be offered during the Veterinary Continuing Education programs offered Aug. 1-6.
