2026 LeTourneau University Spring Masterworks Concert
LeTourneau University’s 2026 Spring Masterworks Concert will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church at 906 Padon St. in Longview on Tuesday, April 28 at 7:00 p.m. Dr. Jim Taylor, Director of Fine Arts at LeTourneau, will direct the LeTourneau Singers and the Longview Civic Chorus and orchestra, with guest soloists soprano Leigh Latchford, tenor Jon Starling, and baritone Casey McCarthy.
This exciting concert will feature two of the four Coronation Anthems of G.F. Handel, written in 1727 for the crowning of King George II, as well as Franz Schubert’s lovely Mass No. 2 in G Major. Dr. Taylor’s new setting of the Nicene Creed, soon to have its European premiere in July, will also be on the concert. In addition, the Studio Treble Choir of Kilgore will sing songs by Rachmaninoff and Bach. Finally, LeTourneau student and pianist Erik Lindgren will play Chopin’s Nocturne Op. 48 No. 1 in C Minor.
Why is a concert like this important and worthy of our support? It is terribly important, for the following reasons: 1) a community’s life can be measured in many ways, and as people consider moving to Longview, they look at the vibrancy of its cultural life; 2) maintaining a culture that reflects the goodness, truth, and beauty of God requires investment in its arts; 3) by mounting a great performance, we provide training and experience for our students and community singers as well as challenging work to our local professional musicians; 4) the masterpieces of Western Civilization inspire us with their excellence and refresh our sights for the future; and 5) we glorify God for the gifts and abilities we have to recreate these marvelous works. Your support is very important to our mission.
Admission to the concert is free of charge so that all may attend regardless of financial ability. Opportunities to help sponsor the concert can be found at https://www.letu.edu/fine-arts/fine-arts-masterworks.html.
