Land Commissioner Buckingham Applauds Veterans Land Board’s Successful Week at the 2026 Houston Rodeo
AUSTIN, Texas— Today, Texas Land Commissioner and Veterans Land Board (VLB) Chairwoman Dawn Buckingham, M.D., is pleased to announce the success of the Veterans Land Board’s (VLB) first year appearance at the 2026 Houston Rodeo inside the Ranching and Wildlife Expo on rodeo grounds. This year, the VLB’s Outreach & Marketing team connected with hundreds of Veterans and their families letting them know about the various services and benefits available to both them and their families.
“I was thrilled to participate in this year’s Houston Rodeo at our VLB booth. It was an honor to thank many Veterans personally for their service to our nation and share with them about our numerous VLB programs,” said Commissioner Buckingham. “I thank our VLB staff for their tireless efforts to spread awareness about the benefits Texas offers our service men and women. Their hard work makes a lasting impact on millions of families across the state. As Chairwoman, I believe there is no greater act of service than pledging to fight for your country. That’s why I’ll always fight for those who answered the call.”

Commissioner Buckingham had the privilege of talking with one Veteran who utilized the VLB’s Land Loan Program to purchase five acres of land for him and his family.
During the VLB’s week-long stay at the Houston Rodeo, VLB staff was given the opportunity to participate in Armed Forces Appreciation Day and connect with various Veterans, including WWII Veterans who were being honored for their sacrifice and courage.
In addition, the VLB team spoke with many Veterans who agreed to participate in our “Voices of Veterans” program, which records the stories of Texas Veterans through their time in service and after returning home.
