All hell breaks loose near Quitman

WOOD COUNTY, TEXAS– On February 14, 2026, at approximately 10:30 P.M., a Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper and a Wood County Sheriff’s Deputy were attempting to serve an arrest warrant on a suspect in a residence near Quitman, Texas. Gunfire was exchanged during the attempted warrant service. The Trooper was wounded in the lower extremity, and a Deputy was also wounded during the exchange.

Both the Trooper and the Deputy were transported to a local hospital and are expected to make a full recovery. After a lengthy standoff, the suspect was also wounded and transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
