FWSSR INTRODUCES INAGURAL BILLY AND PAM MINICK ALL-AROUND AWARD FOR PRO RODEO CONTESTANTS

FORT WORTH, TEXAS, Jan. 20, 2026 — Rodeo is a family affair with numerous legacy husband and wife duos that have provided tremendous contributions, dedication and hard work to enhance the sport. Pam and Billy Minick are among a select group of couples whose impact over the years stands out. So, it was no surprise when the local couple approached the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo about sponsoring a new “all around” award for the FWSSR PRORODEO Tournament.

“Billy and Pam’s impact on the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo has been a major ingredient of our success, not only for our rodeo but for supporting and encouraging our youth competitors and exhibitors, too,” said Stock Show President and General Manager Matt Carter. “They’ve been a part of our rodeo for decades, thus their financial commitment for an all-around award for our professional rodeo athletes is a testament to their devotion to the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo. We are honored by their generous support.”

To be eligible for the Billy and Pam Minick All-Around Award a contestant must have qualified in at least two events in the 2026 FWSSR PRORODEO Tournament. The qualified competitor who earns the most money at the tournament’s conclusion on Feb. 7 will receive an additional $10,000 and a custom belt buckle. Currently, there are three contestants that will vie for the prestigious award.

Paden Bray (Stephenville, Texas) — Tie-Down Roping and Team Roping (heeler)

Wacey Schalla (Arapaho, Okla.) — Bareback Riding and Bull Riding

Stetson Wright (Beaver, Utah) — Bull Riding and Saddle Bronc Riding

Adding to the suspense, Thayne Elsher, a rookie contender from Sturgis, SD, entered in both bull riding and saddle bronc riding has the opportunity to earn his way into the FWSSR PRORODEO Tournament. With a top performance at the FWSSR Rookie Rally on Jan. 22, Elshere can qualify for the PRORODEO Tournament in both events and immediately find himself in the hunt for the inaugural Billy and Pam Minick All-Around Award.

The Minick’s generous donation of $100,000 will support this award over the next ten years and will incentivize all-around excellence at the FWSSR PRORODEO Tournament. Recently honored as the recipients of the 2025 Legend of PRORODEO Award, a prestigious distinction bestowed by the PRORODEO Hall of Fame, Billy and Pam continue to give back to the sport of rodeo and its community.

“The Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo has been a part of my life since I was 7-years old,” said Billy Minick who recalls seeing Gene Autry perform there in 1947. “The proudest moment of my professional rodeo career was leading the grand entry at the FWSSR as the rodeo producer in 1970.”

“We are proud to add to the prestige of the Fort Worth Stock Show by providing additional incentives to the pro rodeo athletes,” added Pam Minick, a National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame honoree who served as a sideline reporter for the FWSSR for three decades.

Rodeo fans are encouraged to secure their tickets at the box office or online to attend the FWSSR Rookie Rally at Dickies Arena on Jan. 22 and all 18 legendary FWSSR PRORODEO Tournament performances, running from Jan. 23 through Feb. 7.
