Upshur Area Amateur Radio Club Supports “Faith Family Freedom” Foot Race with  Critical Communications

Event Date: Saturday, November 22, 2025

GILMER, TX: The Upshur Area Amateur Radio Club (UAARC), a fully volunteer-run  nonprofit organization, will serve the community by providing essential communications support  during the upcoming Faith Family Freedom foot race on Saturday, November 22, 2025.

Licensed amateur radio operators from UAARC and the local Amateur Radio Emergency  Service (ARES) will be stationed at progress points along the race route. These operators will  relay real-time updates on runner locations, ensure smooth coordination among event organizers,  and provide a direct line of communication to first responders should any participant require  medical assistance.

“Events like the Faith Family Freedom race give our volunteers the opportunity to practice vital  communication skills under real-world conditions,” the club noted. “While we hope for a safe  and successful event, our role is to be ready—because in an emergency, reliable communication  can make all the difference.”

UAARC and ARES members routinely train to support emergency operations during severe  weather, community disasters, and public safety incidents. By participating in events like this  race, operators sharpen their technical skills, test equipment, and strengthen teamwork—ensuring  they are fully prepared when their community needs them most.

The Upshur Area Amateur Radio Club receives no outside funding and is made up entirely of  local volunteers dedicated to public service.
