Friends of Upshur County Library Transform Teen Literacy with Successful Spring Craft Fair Fundraiser
GILMER, TX – The Friends of Upshur County Library is transforming access to teen literacy and programming through their most successful Spring Craft Fair fundraiser yet. The volunteer-driven organization has saved $557 in processing fees by using Zeffy’s free fundraising platform—money that has directly funded new shelving in the library’s expanding teen room.
“The public library is often the very core that defines a community,” says Hannah Hooser, Secretary of Friends of Upshur County Library. “Every dollar we save on fees means more resources going straight to serving our local families and young people.”
Since 1966, this dedicated group of citizens has worked tirelessly to enhance library services through fundraising events like book sales, craft fairs, and their annual Gala. Their recent success has enabled significant improvements to the teen section, creating an inviting space where young readers can discover new books and participate in engaging programs.
The impact of their work extends beyond physical improvements. The organization sponsors cultural events, movie days, musical presentations, and the popular Summer Reading Program, making the library a vibrant community hub. By switching from PayPal to Zeffy’s fee-free platform, they’ve made it more convenient for donors while ensuring every contribution goes further.
“Because of our previous craft fairs, we were able to expand our teen section and host more programs at the library,” Hooser adds. “The money we’re saving on transaction fees is making a real difference in what we can offer our community.”
Looking ahead, the Friends of Upshur County Library continues to focus on making the library an accessible and engaging space for all county residents. Their Spring Craft Fair promises to build on this momentum, raising funds for future improvements and programs.
