David Crockett Chapter Celebrates Texas Independence Day

Granbury, Texas – The David Crockett Chapter of the Sons of the Republic of Texas cordially invites you to join them for the 5th Annual Texas Independence Celebration.

This cherished community event, proudly sponsored and performed by the David Crockett Chapter, has become a local favorite and is always well attended. We are thrilled to announce that the Granbury High School Choir will be joining us once again this year for a special presentation of “Texas, Our Texas.”

Texas Independence Day commemorates the adoption of the Texas Declaration of Independence, signed by 59 delegates at Washington-on-the-Brazos—now known as the “Birthplace of Texas.” This historic document officially severed Mexican Texas from Mexico, establishing the Republic of Texas as an independent nation.

The Texas Declaration of Independence was heavily influenced by the principles of self-government and natural rights found in the American Declaration of Independence, as well as the philosophies of John Locke and other enlightenment thinkers. Drafted during the Texas Revolution, the declaration was a direct response to the Mexican government. Convention President Richard Ellis appointed a committee to write the document, with George Childress serving as chairman and primary author, assisted by other committee members. The committee presented the declaration the day after its formation, and over the following days, all 59 delegates representing Texas settlements voted to approve it unanimously.

Join us as we honor this pivotal moment in our state’s rich history with music, community, and a shared appreciation for the legacy of Texas independence.

We look forward to seeing you there!
