BRYAN – Columbus quarterback Adam Schobel was the offensive player of the year on the 73rd annual Blue Bell/Texas Sports Writers Association’s Class 3A all-state football team. Schobel threw for 3,744 yards with 55 touchdowns and only three interceptions in leading Columbus to the Division I state championship. The TCU signee rushed for 575 yards and 13 touchdowns. His cousin, John Schobel, who played linebacker, was the defensive player of the year. He had 196 tackles, 118 of them solos with 12 sacks and 17 quarterback pressures. John Schobel also signed with TCU. Columbus coach Matt Schobel, who played at Columbus and TCU, is the TSWA coach of the year. He is the father of Adam Schobel.
