‘Juneteenth’ coming to Historic Upshur Museum
“JUNETEENTH,” AN EXHIBITION BY HUMANITIES TEXAS, WILL BE AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC AT THE HISTORIC UPSHUR MUSEUM FROM FEBRUARY 6- MARCH 2025.
The 10-panel exhibition explores the context and lasting effects of June 19, 1865, when Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, to inform enslaved Black Americans they had been freed under the 1863 Emancipation Proclamation. Museum Hours: Thur-Fri 10-4pm and Sat 10-2pm.
