New Diana 2023 Graduate Valdo Gomez selected to participate in College Invitational Soccer Tour in Spain
Former New Diana 2023 Graduate Valdo Gomez has been selected to
participate in a College Invitational Soccer Tour in Spain.
The tour invite list is done by a competitive selection process which
included 600 colleges. Tour participants selected are conference
leaders, all-conference honorees, and coach recommendations.
Valdo is currently a freshman at Arlington Baptist University. He was
named MVP and was lead scorer this year.
This young man started playing soccer as early as 4 years old. It
started with the local recreational league play at Longview’s Lear Park.
From there it moved to club play in the East Texas area and participated
in the FC Dallas league. New Diana did not have a school soccer program
until his freshman year in high school. The first year was considered
Club and was moved into UIL the following year. Out of the 3 years in
high school UIL play he scored 66 goals and had 38 assists. He was
selected MVP all 3 years, 2-time Midfielder of the Year, All East Texas,
All-time leading Scorer and All-time leading Assists. With all these
accomplishments it is no doubt that Valdo will be a great fit for this
11-day Tour in Spain.
Agenda for the College Invitational Tour will start June 1st, 2024. He
will meet and practice with the other selected college participants at
Madrid the first three days. Those days will also include a tour of the
Santiago Bernabeu Stadium (home of the Real Madrid F.C.) and Las Ventas
Bullring and Museum. The first game will be played on the 4th day
against a club team from Madrid. The 5th day they travel to Valencia for
another couple days practice and play one game against a local club
team. On the way to Valencia, they will stop at Toledo “city of three
cultures” for a guided walking tour. They will experience a cooking
class of these cultures and spend an afternoon of community service
activity facilitating a soccer clinic for local youth. Final days will
be in Barcelona. There they will take a guided tour that includes a stop
at Park Guell and Montiuic Hill – site of 1992 Olympic Games. That
evening they will play their final game against a club team. The
following morning, they will attend a guided walking tour of Barcelona’s
Gothic Quarter. Attend a farewell dinner that evening and depart for
home the following morning.

Valdo is the son of Melissa and Valdo Gomez Sr. He has a younger
brother, Christian and Grandson of Judy and Kyle Lopez.
