Winnsboro Center for the Arts Presents the 10th Annual “Art in the Gallery” High School Art Competition & Exhibition

The 10th Annual High School Art Competition and Exhibition will be
presented by Winnsboro Center for the Arts (WCA) at 200 Market St.,
Winnsboro, Texas, from April 6 – 27, 2024. The reception to celebrate
the artists will be on April 21st from 2 – 4 pm at WCA.

Homeschool students and high school students in the following school
districts were invited to participate in this competition and
exhibition: Alba-Golden, Big Sandy, Como-Pickton, Gilmer, Grand Saline,
Harmony, Hawkins, Lone Oak, Miller Grove, Mineola, Mt. Pleasant, Mt.
Vernon, Quitman, Rains, Sulphur Springs, Winnsboro, and Yantis. This
competition is open to all types of art providing students in Northeast
Texas with a unique opportunity to be juried by professional artists,
and have their artwork exhibited at WCA, with $1000 worth of prizes
awarded to the winners, and a scholarship for a qualifying senior. This
educational opportunity is under the direction of WCA Director of
Education Ale McComic and Mary Geisler, a dedicated volunteer.

This is WCA’s fourth year to host this event. In 2013, Lyn Baldwin,
working with Friends of the Rains County Public Library, decided to
engage talented teens from local area high schools in learning about all
aspects of creating and exhibiting their art. Since then, students have
participated and gotten involved in this artistic competition.

In 2021, WCA opened its doors to “Art in the Gallery”, and it has become
a highlight of their youth program. Baldwin shares that “teens needed an
